Energy UK reports consumers spend 3mn hours reading meters

Energy UK has released new figures which state UK consumers are spending 3 million hours each year to read their gas and electricity meters.

It claims that with the installation of the new smart meters, consumers can reduce the seven minute average to find, read and submit readings from their meter.

Christine McGourty, Energy UK director said;

 “As a result of the effort involved many people did not read their meter, so smart meters will not only cut down on wasted time but ensure consumers get an accurate energy bill.”
