Market analysts,
Datamonitor, have released a report that highlights the huge challenges countries will face as they roll-out
Smart Meters. The report suggests the value of the Smart Meter market, over Western Europe to be worth between 15 and 26 billion and argues that the project is on par with the creation of the internet.
Report co-author, Alex Desbarres says, “Effectively what we are talking about is the construction of a machine-to-machine communications infrastructure to rival the ‘online’ facilities that we have come to enjoy.”
The report also expresses concerns over processes, saying they should be re-designed ahead of the roll-out and claims that the UK has not given proper consideration to implementing the project.
