France leads the race in installing smart meters

 

France has accelerated their deployment of smart meters. A decree on 31^st August deemed that 95% of smart meters must be deployed by the end of 2016 – 4 years ahead of the European Union’s requirement of 80% by 2020.

 

From 2012 all new meters installed in France must be on smart meters. In addition, data must be collected daily with consumers having the right to have their data shared with authorised third parties.

 

This decree covers over 35 million meters.
