Microsoft cancels Hohm energy service

Microsoft has announced the closure of its home energy monitoring service, Hohm, just days after Google pulled its own data monitoring software, PowerMeter.

Perhaps thanks to their early adoption of energy monitoring technology, Microsoft struggled to find utility partners to promote Hohm. This was due to incompatible data and inconsistent hardware in a new smart metering market.
