A new study has found that the European smart meter rollout has been affected by EU countries’ differing regulations and policies.
The report, published by Frost & Sullivan, is predicting an overall European smart meter growth of 26%, led by the UK. France is also seen to have high growth potential, whilst rollouts in Sweden and Italy are complete and nearing completion respectively.
But Germany, by comparison, has not developed any mandatory rollout plans.
Frost & Sullivan research associate Neha Vikash said, “The contrast in the level of smart meter deployment between various European states begs the question as to who should be responsible for smart meter penetration: the government or the industry?”
