Ofgem consultation on smarter energy markets

Ofgem opened a consultation today on the scope of a strategy to shape market development from the platform of smart metering.

In line with the energy sector’s role in the transition to a low-carbon economy, the government have a policy to mandate energy suppliers rolling out smart metering by 2020. This major programme has many potential benefits.

Ofgem is keen to play its part in this process to support the development of smarter markets. As such, this consultation is the first step in this process.

Responses are sought by 7th March 2012.
