Smart analysis tools will be the key drivers to smart meter success

Domestic energy suppliers are under pressure to install smart meters to 26 million UK households by 2020. The driver behind the DECC requirements are to enable domestic customers to monitor their energy consumption and as a result use this information to make energy efficiency measures and save money.
 
Questions are being raised about how domestic energy suppliers are going to be able to manage the huge amount of data they will receive. Energy suppliers are working quickly to source hardware and communication solutions to ensure these huge amounts of data are turned into meaningful information for both the customer and the energy supplier themselves.
 
Only by creating meaningful data will customers be able to take energy efficiency measures and truly utilise the benefits of smart metering technology. It seems that the domestic energy providers have a few challenges ahead and it isn’t just about ensuring the meters are installed.
