Western Europe expects strong annual growth for smart metering

According to a recent report titled ‘Smart metering in Western Eurpope’ by Berg Insight, the installation of meters in Europe is expected to grow at an approximate rate of 18 percent per year; equating to 111.4million by 2015.

Smart meters have been introduced into businesses and homes all over the world, however Europe had an early start back in the 2000s, when Enel completed the first nationwide rollout of meters to over 30 million customer across Italy. Now in 2010, Spain, France and the UK are assuming the most active positions in the market.

To a large extent, regulations have driven the adoption of smart metering across European countries.
