Thames Water begins smart meter trial

Utility company Thames Water is trialling a smart metering system in an effort to simplify the existing process.

The system aims to give more accurate data on customer usage, allowing the company to manage its water more effectively.

Commercial director, Dr Piers Clark said: "A smart metering system typically requires a long chain of transmitters, data concentrators and repeaters. The systems we are trialling works along the same lines but without anywhere near the number of links in the chain."
